What are Dental Braces?

Braces help create a beautiful smile and enhance self-esteem. They can also drastically improve oral health for adults and children.

When teeth are rotated or overcrowded, it is difficult for your toothbrush to reach all of the areas suffering from decay. Straighter teeth makes it far easier to take care of your oral health while also giving you a Hollywood smile.

Braces can improve a person’s appearance by aligning teeth and correcting the natural bite. They can solve problems like crowded or twisted teeth, overbites or underbites. Nowadays braces have become less noticeable and are therefore used more regularly in improving the appearance and health of the teeth.

Anyone unhappy with their existing teeth should consider braces. However, braces are particularly suitable for children between the ages of 9 and 16. In this age group, the teeth and jaw line are growing very quickly and are, therefore, more easily realigned. Notwithstanding this fact, adults are using braces more than ever before and near 50% of our patients are adults.

And don’t forget to schedule regular visits with your dentist. If you don’t have one, we’d be happy to refer you to someone we have confidence in.

Types of Braces

There are a couple of types of braces.

  • Type 1 Braces: plastic or metal brackets. Metal and clear plastic brackets are available with clear brackets now very popular because they are so much less noticeable.
  • Type 2 Braces: Invisalign® plastic aligners. Invisalign is a series of clear plastic aligners that move teeth like traditional braces but are virtually invisible and much more comfortable. They can be taken off to eat and brush teeth and are a great option for adults (and responsible teenagers).
